Eyelid Lift Procedure

Dr George Christopoulos, a highly regarded aesthetic doctor and plastic surgeon, will perform your blepharoplasty surgery in Liverpool.

He has worked as a plastic surgeon in the UK’s leading hospitals and practised aesthetic medicine as a cosmetic surgeon at some of London’s most prestigious private clinics.

Before starting your blepharoplasty procedure, Dr Christopoulos will mark your eyelid skin to guide his incisions.

Your eyelid will be numbed with local anaesthetic, and when you are comfortable, surgery will begin.

If you are having upper eyelid surgery to remove sagging skin above the eye, the skin incision will be made in the natural crease of your upper lid. If you are having eye bag surgery, the incisions are usually placed in the lower eyelid skin below the lash line.

Dr Christopoulos will use these tiny incisions to remove excess skin.

Partial fat removal may also be required to create a smoother and more lifted eyelid contour.

Your blepharoplasty surgery will take up to 2 hours. Once the procedure is completed, the skin edges will be closed with sterile strips.

Blepharoplasty Surgery: Aftercare & Downtime

Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure, so you will be able to go home once we have confirmed that you are stable and comfortable.

Please have someone collect you from the clinic to drive you home, as you will have some swelling and Steri-Strips on your eyes.

We will provide you with simple pain relief like paracetamol and lubricating eye cream, if required.

Bruising and slight swelling are normal in the first few days. We recommend using cold compresses to reduce puffiness.

Although blepharoplasty surgery is a minor procedure, it is essential to rest and allow your body to heal correctly.

Light activities are encouraged, but strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and bending should be avoided for 1 to 2 weeks after the procedure.

It is also essential to protect your eyes from irritants such as smoke, direct sunlight, and swimming pool chlorine for at least two weeks.

You should wait for a similar period before using makeup or skincare that could get into the eye area.

Contact lenses may irritate your eyes after surgery, so glasses are a better option for at least a fortnight.

The incisions will be closed with a combination of dissolvable sutures and a suture that needs to be removed 6 to 10 days after the procedure at our Liverpool clinic.

Please remember that we are just a phone call away if you require advice or have any concerns during your recovery period. Our expert medical aesthetics team is committed to delivering the highest level of care and support throughout your blepharoplasty journey.

Yes. It may also be beneficial to do so. Many patients experience eyelid laxity and excess skin on both the upper and lower eyelids. A youthful appearance can be restored by addressing both concerns during the same procedure.

There are several steps you can take to ensure the best possible outcome for your blepharoplasty surgery. It is wise to avoid certain medications and supplements before your surgery, as they may increase bleeding and bruising. These include blood thinning tablets (avoid after consultation with your doctor) and the following; aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, Vitamin E, St John's Wort, ginkgo biloba and ginseng. We also advise patients to avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours before their procedure, as this can also thin the blood and encourage bruising. Smokers should try to stop at least 6 weeks before eyelid surgery, as smoking can affect healing. Otherwise, try to be as healthy and well-rested as possible and arrive with your eye area clean and makeup-free.

Eyelid surgery is performed using local anaesthesia to numb the eye area. You will feel gentle pressure but won't experience any pain.

Your eye area may be bruised and slightly swollen after your procedure. This is normal, and we advise patients to reduce swelling with cold compresses and to sleep with their head raised on pillows for the first few days. If necessary eye drops will be recommended or prescribed.

The incision scars will fade to silver lines, but as Dr Christopolous places the surgical incisions in the natural skin crease of your eyelids, even minimal scarring is barely visible.

The long-lasting results of a blepharoplasty can provide you with a refreshed and youthful appearance for years to come. However, no procedure can stop the ageing process, and you may wish to have further surgery in the future. In the meantime, we are here to help you maintain your natural beauty with premium treatments and the most advanced technology available.
